The commercial carbine from the same DNA, the Hk Mr556a1 is a direct ancestor of the renowned HK416. It provides the reliability, toughness, and accuracy that you would expect from a rifle bearing the Heckler & Koch name after being tested in the field.
Many of the same parts and assemblies created for the HK416 are used in the USA during the assembly of the MR556A1.
Like the HK416, the Hk Mr556a1 operates the action with an unique HK short-stroke gas piston as opposed to the direct-gas-impingement method used on less expensive AR15-style rifles.
Exhaust gasses never enter the receiver in the “closed” HK piston system, allowing for cooler, cleaner, and more dependable operation.
The benefit of the HK system is much more obvious when unfavorable conditions like dust, sand, and mud are present. That is why so many of the world’s most elite law enforcement and military clients have complete faith in their HKs.
The barrel of the Hk Mr556a1 is cold hammer forged from cannon-grade steel of the finest quality. It has a taper-bore design with a 1 in 7″ twist and a slightly reduced diameter at the muzzle for increased accuracy and velocity. Additionally, HK’s methods include numerous additional steps not used by other manufacturers to produce accuracy, even while the material and cold hammer forging process alone greatly boost longevity.
